The Small Business Difference
The Small Business Difference

In this day and age we have a world of goods at our fingertips via the internet. We can order a product that will be at our door in just a few days or look up information to solve practically any problem. While these solutions are handy, they lack personal service and attention to detail, which are still important. Let's not forget the ways small businesses can enhance your shopping experience.

The difference of knowledge.

Have you ever done a bit of research to replace a part, ordered it, only to have it not fit? Now you’re on the phone, chatting with someone miles away and getting little resolved. Small business owners spend hours making sure they know their inventory inside and out. You can rest assure if a replacement part does not fit or work properly, they will get to the bottom of it. Earning your trust is essential to the heart of their business.

The difference of training.

Even the best do-it-yourselfers need a hand from time to time. Sometimes the mechanics of a large appliance or project is overwhelming. Attention to training employees about the products being used and how they work is important. Many big box stores have a quick turn over in employees. That means the service person, who may have just watched a video or read a manual, is now installing an item in your home fairly unprepared. The owner of a smaller business can take the time to ensure his employees are well versed in any installation and the parts being used. Sometimes they are able to be trained by the manufacturer themselves, which allows them to ask more detailed questions.

The difference of seeing in person.

I think we’ve all ordered something, that when it arrived, was not how it was described. Too tight, too large, way too hot pink! There is something to be said about seeing an item in person. To be able to touch it, feel the weight of it and just get a sense if it really fits you or your home. A local business knows their community and the looks and styles that people want. It is also nice to know they have staff on hand to assist you in making the right decision, no going around aisle to aisle looking for someone to wait on you.
