Resolutions for Your Home
Resolutions for Your Home

Happy New Year! Perhaps you’ve made a resolution to eat healthier or work out more. How about some resolutions for around your home? Projects that will enhance, improve AND can be tackled a few at a time over the next year. Here are some suggestions that will make a difference in 2023.

Get Smart

There are so many great devices and apps that can make our lives...and homes run easier. Are you making the most of an Alexa-type device? It’s not just for trivia and playing your favorite tunes. Pair it with your home’s lights, turn on a security system, control your thermostat and tell it when you are low on milk. Check out apps that can also allow to do those functions from your phone. No more worrying if you left the garage door open, a simple peek at your phone can confirm it’s status and you can shut it from miles away.

Upgrading appliances this year? Smart toasters are the latest cool gadget. Although a bit pricey, they offer an array of settings and toast items faster. The more economical side might see you getting an automatic pan stirrer. No more burnt sauces!

Do some research on other items that can same you money & time.

Make a Home Calendar Maintenance Schedule

Grab a second calendar or utilize the one on your phone or tablet and schedule those little maintenance tasks that may slip by you as the year progresses. Here are a few to note:

Every 3 months-Clean or change air filters in the home. Test your smoke detectors.

Every 6 months-Wash windows. Clean out the dryer lint trap outside of your home.

Yearly-Have your furnace inspected. Check your home’s gutters. Do a thorough home inspection. Refinish or apply a protective coating to decks.

Transform a room or piece of furniture with paint.

Never underestimate the power of a coat of paint. A perfect weekend project. With a solid plan, you can redo a small room, accent wall or refinish a piece of furniture.

Up Your Green Game

Every little change helps our local community and environment. Stop buying bottled water and invest in a pitcher that filters your tap water. Treat yourself to a great water bottle too! Collect your rainwater for your garden and plants. Instead of throwing away food, give composting a try. Get every bit out of various products….there is a least 4 or 5 more squirts of lotion that the pump can’t get to. Turn that bottle over and shake the rest into a small container. Take reusable bags when you grocery shop. Lots of other ways to go green, challenge yourself to adopt a new one each month.

Fix The Little Things

Sometimes it’s the little things that add up to big changes. Drafty windows or doors? Fixing or replacing them will save money on heating & cooling bills over time. Tighten the door knob that’s loose, fix the leaky faucet, clean out the junk drawer. Make a list, gather your tools and set aside a Saturday to tackle a bunch at one time.

Protect your biggest investment and feel good about your home in 2023!
